Michael Watkins is an English-speaking lawyer, knowledgeable in both immigration and refugee matters, including spousal sponsorships, economic pathways to permanent residence, humanitarian and compassionate considerations, temporary residence, and grants of citizenship. He also has experience in advocacy before the Federal Court of Canada, including judicial review of immigration decisions, and applications for a writ of mandamus.

Michael completed a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Allison University in 2013, before spending seven years of his early career working in communications and public relations. These experiences help Michael to clearly articulate tough legal concepts, and craft compelling submissions that decision makers understand.

After tenures at Concordia University in Montreal, and the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, Michael attended Osgoode Hall Law School, graduating in 2023.

Michael completed his articling year at a law firm in Toronto, where he focused on supporting members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community as they immigrated to Canada. After being called to the Ontario Bar in early 2025, Michael worked at a firm in Toronto representing clients with immigration and refugee matters before the Federal Court of Canada.

Outside the GAIL office, Michael enjoys spending time with his dog, swimming with a Master’s team in the city, and cooking elaborate dinners for friends and family.
